Public Participation in Community Development Planning

The project aims to strengthen residents’ participation in setting community development priorities, discussing projects, and monitoring the implementation of the local strategy. To this end, a digital tool for assessing public participation is being developed on the CLS platform.

Goal:

To establish a practical mechanism that will help residents influence planning and decision-making, and enable local governments to assess the level of public engagement and take public opinion into account when implementing development strategies.

Main Components

• involving residents in assessing the state of key areas of community life;
• conducting surveys, consultations, and public discussions;
• tracking the number and percentage of residents who participated in the planning process;
• a comparison of participation rates and residents' ratings by year;
• to illustrate the connection between public input, local projects, and progress in implementing the strategy.

Target Groups

Residents of territorial communities, local government bodies, local CSOs, initiative groups, and other stakeholders in local development.

Expected result

Communities will gain a tool for systematically engaging the public, measuring civic participation, and utilizing resident feedback when setting priorities and making management decisions. Residents will be able to see how their assessments and suggestions are taken into account in community development planning.

Current stage

A prototype tool for assessing public participation has been developed. Plans are in place to conduct a pilot launch in the community, test mechanisms for engaging residents, and refine the solution before scaling it up further.
